Oven temperature is wrong
The oven heats, but the temperature is wrong, drifts, or will not hold.
Temperature complaints split cleanly by what the oven shows you. Work out which half you are in before buying anything.

- Verify against an independent thermometer
Put an oven thermometer on the deck and compare. If the actual temperature is correct and only the display is wrong, you have a reading fault. If the actual temperature is wrong, you have a control fault. These lead to different parts.
No part needed if this is your fault - Check the door seal and the hinge
An oven that cannot hold temperature is often losing heat rather than failing to make it. Close the door on a strip of paper and pull — if it slides out freely, the seal is not sealing.
- Digital display: check the probe first
On an oven with a digital readout, a wrong or drifting reading is far more often the thermocouple than the controller. The probe is also the cheaper part, so test it first.
- Digital display: then the controller
If the probe measures correctly and the display still disagrees, the controller is at fault.
- No digital display: the mechanical thermostat
On an oven with a dial and no readout, temperature control is the capillary thermostat. A bent or leaking capillary tube is a common failure and is visible on inspection.
