Useful first checks. Descale the float before replacing it. A switch stuck with limescale behaves exactly like a failed one and cleaning it costs nothing.
What this part is
A float carrying a magnet rides on the water surface and operates a sealed reed switch in the stem, telling the control when the proofer tray needs filling.
How it fails
Scale. The float seizes on the stem and stops following the water. Stuck at the full position, the tray never refills and the proofer stops steaming; stuck at empty, it overfills. Descaling fixes a good share of these before any part is needed.
What decides whether a replacement fits
